PK-3 Preliminary Credential Application Requirements

Program Application Process:

The application to the PK-3 ECE credential program is located on Cal State Apply.

  1. Prepare documents to be scanned and uploaded
  2. Complete the online application at- $70.00 University Fee (non-refundable)
    1. Please review the 听for additional information.
      1. When completing the Cal State Apply application, select the following program: Classified postbacc: PK-3 Credential.
      2. Official transcripts from all institutions attended must be submitted听to the Admissions Office prior to the deadline. Official transcripts for coursework or degrees completed at CSUDH do not need to be submitted.

Helpful tips to ensure your transcripts are received:

  • Submit your Cal State Apply application prior听to sending official transcripts from your former institutions.

  • Use the same name on your Cal State Apply application as on your transcripts (if your name has changed, indicate this in your transcript order).

  • Transfer credit posted on official transcripts from another institution do not substitute the submission of individual official transcripts.

Spring Term: November 1st

Fall Term: June 1st

Preliminary Admission Requirements:

Degree

Bachelor鈥檚 degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

Upload copy of unofficial transcript from the institution where you earned your degree, combined into one file (PDF, etc).

Any candidate who's bachelor's degree has not been conferred can be conditionally admitted pending degree confirmation.

GPA Requirement
A cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 in the last 60 semester units or 2.50 in all baccalaureate or postbaccalaureate coursework. If you do not meet this requirement, you are required to complete a Low GPA Petition for Exception Formand upload it to the appropriate place in your application.
ESCP Student Commitment Form

Applicants must read the Equitable Standards for Clinical Practice Student Commitment Form, complete the following fields on page 2 of the form, and upload to the application:

- Student Name
- ID # (If you are new to the CSU and do not yet have a Student ID #, please leave this section blank. You will be issued an ID via email about 5 business days after submitting your Cal State Apply application.)
- Student Signature
- Date

Letters of Recommendation

Applicants must provide two professional recommendations. Recommendations must be completed by a faculty member, employer, or someone that is knowledgeable regarding the applicant鈥檚 personal qualities and ability to work with children. Recommendations from family members and friends are not acceptable.

Please be advised that your application will be considered incomplete until a minimum of 2 letters of recommendation are submitted by the application deadline. To ensure your application is complete, confirm that your recommenders have successfully completed their Likert scale evaluation and uploaded their letter of recommendation. Your application may not be reviewed and may be withdrawn if these requirements are not met by the deadline.

Once you have saved an electronic recommendation, an email request will automatically be sent to the recommender on your behalf. Please advise your recommender to look for this email in their inbox, as well as their spam or junk-mail folder, as emails do occasionally get filtered out.

Recommenders must complete their Letters of Recommendation by the published application听deadline.

Essay

Essay up to 300 words:听Discuss your interest in teaching preschool through 3rd grade students in racially and culturally diverse classroom at under-resourced schools in the Los Angeles area.

Fingerprint Clearance

Certificate of Clearance, Child Development Permit, Emergency, substitute permit, or intern credential issued by the CTC. Please note, the application for a Certificate of Clearance includes:

  1. Completing the fingerprint process
  2. for the Certificate of Clearance
  3. Submitting your certificate with your online application.

CPR Certification

Applicants must provide proof of valid CPR certification, which satisfies criteria established by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. These areas include infant, child and adult CPR. Online certification is acceptable.

  1. Submit a copy of your signed CPR card (front and back) or PDF certification, with your online program application. Your CPR certification must be valid for the duration of the program.
Tuberculosis Clearance

Applicants must provide verification of freedom from active tuberculosis. The TB test report or a letter from a physician must have been administered within the last year and clearly indicate a negative result with date, as well as applicant name, DOB, and clinic information or stamp. This test may be completed at any health facility. Chest X-Ray results will be accepted if there is a documented history of a positive PPD skin test result.

Verification of Subject Matter Competency

Progress toward Subject Matter is required at acceptance. Once you are accepted, you will complete a Qualtrics survey regarding Subject Matter. We will include a link to the survey in your acceptance letter. Candidates must meet subject matter prior to starting clinical practice. Field Experience

Candidates will be conditionally admitted pending successful completion of their first documented field experience within the program, as well as Phase I coursework.

Verification of Subject Matter

Verification of meeting subject matter competence must be submitted with your clinical practice application. For additional information regarding the Subject Matter Requirement please see .

Approved Program Plan

Candidates must submit an approved program plan prior to admission to clinical practice. Candidates are required to meet with an advisor to complete the program plan. Please provide ample time to schedule an appointment with your academic advisor. Academic advisor鈥檚 schedules are available in Dept. offices.

Evidence of Completion of 200 Hours

Please upload documentation verifying one of your required clinical practice settings, showing either:

Credential - Interns Only

Candidates must provide a copy of their valid Intern Credential.

Current Employment Contract - Interns Only

Candidates must submit a copy of current employment contract as an Intern from the appropriate agencies (school district, charter school).

Bilingual Authorization Requirements (if applicable)
