Course Description

Hazardous Materials

This course covers OSHA General Industry Standards and other consensus standards in the construction and maritime industries that relate to the use of hazardous materials. Course topics include compressed gases, flammable liquids, dipping & coating, spray finishing, anhydrous ammonia and liquified petroleum gas (LPG).

Upon course completion students will have the ability to evaluate hazardous materials activities in accordance with applicable OSHA standards.

听

Learning Outcomes:

Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Recognize respirable crystalline silica exposure
  2. Describe respirable crystalline silica
  3. Recognize respirable crystalline silica health effects
  4. Identify respirable crystalline silica exposure assessment options
  5. Recognize respirable crystalline silica exposure control measures
  6. Identify medical surveillance, recordkeeping and training requirements

听Registration Eligibility

Students who wish to participate in OSHA鈥搉umbered courses in the online synchronous video conferencing format听must have a valid physical address in OSHA's San Francisco Region (AK, AZ, CA, OR, NV, HI, ID, WA, Guam, and American Samoa), or obtain permission from their local OTIEC to attend a class outside their home region.

Other CSUDH OTIEC courses can be taken by anyone (no residency required).

听

System and Equipment Requirements

It is important that students review the system and equipment requirements listed below to be able to successfully take part in a CSUDH OTIEC course, whether participating in person or online via video conferencing.

Requirements for In-Person Students

  • A laptop with built-in camera, Wi-Fi capability

Requirements for Online Students

  • An internet connection 鈥� broadband wired or wireless (4G/LTE or better)
  • Access to computer or laptop with built-in camera 鈥� one student per device
  • OSHA 510, 511, 500 and 501 Students only:
    Additional stand-alone webcam or secondary device (phone)
  • Built-in or external speakers/headset and microphone
