Resources for Parents and Families

CSUDH is committed to supporting students throughout their academic journey. While families play an important role in encouraging and guiding their students, students must contact campus offices directly to request services or assistance. Due to privacy laws, offices may share general information with families, but student-specific details must be discussed directly with the student.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

FERPA is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. Once a student enrolls in college, many academic and educational records belong to the student, regardless of who is providing financial or personal support. Families are encouraged to talk with their students about what information they are comfortable sharing and to understand how privacy laws guide communication at the university.
