Additional Employment Requirements

Faculty unit employees are generally limited to the equivalent of one full-time appointment (100%). Under of the CSU-CFA Collective Bargaining Agreement, additional employment of up to 125% may be permitted when the proposed assignment meets one or more of the criteria established in the agreement.

When determining whether a Faculty Additional Pay request is required, faculty should first consider whether the proposed work is already part of their normal instructional responsibilities. Not all work performed outside the classroom constitutes additional employment.

As described in of the CSU-CFA Collective Bargaining Agreement, a faculty member's instructional responsibilities听extend beyond classroom teaching and include activities such as preparation for class, evaluation of student performance, syllabus development and revision, review of current literature and research in the discipline, and maintaining instructional methodology. Research, scholarship, and creative activity within a faculty member's field of expertise are essential to effective teaching. Mentoring students and colleagues is also a responsibility faculty members are frequently expected to perform as part of their normal appointment.

A Faculty Additional Pay request is required only when the proposed work is separate from these normal responsibilities and qualifies as additional employment under .

Faculty are responsible for disclosing all CSU employment so the University can ensure compliance with applicable workload limitations.
