Biochemistry (Summer Session)

Chemist in LabSatisfy your Biochemistry Requirements for Medical or Dental Schoolthis Summer!

In Summer 2026, Biochemistry courses will be offered as part of the Summer Self-support regular schedule. If you are not an admitted CSUDH student, you can enroll in these classes via Open University, starting March 23, 2026.

Many pre-professional students need to take one semester of biochemistry. CSUDH College of Continuing and Professional Education offers a series of intensive summer classes that satisfies this requirement.

The class helps prepare students for the MCAT exam and meets the prerequisite course requirements for medical and dental school. Most medical schools only require the lecture and not the lab; please check with the medical/dental program to which you intend to apply for details about their requirements.

The CSUDH College of Continuing and Professional Education launched this program in 2024. Because students are focused on a single class, they often perform better than by taking the classes with a full course load.

Important Notes:

  • We recommend all activated students register online via MyCSUDH to avoid extended phone wait times.
  • If you are new to CSUDH, you MUST register via phone (see below for instructions).
  • Only one student may register per phone call.

FAQs

Do I need to do both the CHE 450 (Biochem I) and CHE 451 (Biochem II) courses to fulfill the medical school requirement, or just CHE 450?

Most medical schools only require the lecture and not the lab. (Typically, the majority of the students who are signing up for the lab this summer are CSUDH students who require it for their major degree.) Please be sure to consult with your academic advisor to review your education plan.

How is the course offered?

This is a synchronous online course, meaning that there will be live lecture components. Video recordings of all lectures will be made available shortly after the live section is complete.

Can I enroll if I'm currently taking the Biochemistry prerequisite courses?

Yes, you can!

I'm enrolled in Organic Chemistry but am being blocked from enrolling in Biochemistry... What do I do?

Please contact biochemistry@csudh.edu for a review/permission number.
