The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Course is challenging and demands dedication, persistence, and flexibility. The course is designed to give the student all the information and skills necessary to obtain certification as a nationally registered EMT, leading to employment in a number of emergency services, such as the fire department, police department, and private ambulance service. This course is also great even if you just want to earn money to support yourself working at an ambulance company while you are earning your degree! There is a great need for EMTs, and there are ambulance companies willing to work around your school schedule to help you achieve your personal goals. EMT certification also prepares you for healthcare careers. This course meets state training program requirements for national registry, including didactic hours and patient contacts and training in naloxone, epinephrine auto-injector, glucometer, and four hours of basic tactical casualty care.

According to the , employment of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics is projected to grow 6% from 2023 to 2033, much faster than the average for all occupations. Emergencies, such as car crashes, natural disasters, and acts of violence, will continue to require the skills of EMTs and paramedics.

Please note: If you have nearly all of the required documents and qualifications, you should apply and pursue conditional approval. Some of the requirements, such as a negative TB test, may be delayed by a few weeks due to the timing of patient contact via fieldwork.
At the completion of the EMT course, students will be eligible to take the national certifying exam (NREMT), making them eligible for state certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and thereby eligible to work in the state of California as an EMT.

Jess Nalley, Firefighter Paramedic, has over 25 years of experience in emergency response. After 8 years of Search and Rescue in Naval Aviation, Jess worked first as an EMT for care ambulance then a paramedic for AMR then for Cal Fire. Jess for the last 10 years has put his expertise to use developing and instructing Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training Courses. He is a certified California State Fire Marshal Fire Instructor 1A and 1B, as well as a California Credentialed teacher. He is an avid adventurer with hobbies such as rock climbing, surfing, sailing, mountaineering and scuba diving.

Additionally, if you are 18–24 years of age, you may qualify for assistance through the , which provides many services for youth and young adults, both in school and out of school, ages 14-24 years old. Services include pre-employment training, work experience and internships, career preparation, occupational skill training, academic enrichment and job placement assistance.

Through a partnership with the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB), the College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) at CSUDH offers grant-funded training for select allied health programs. Eligible individuals may qualify for funding through the Health-Flex High Road Training Partnership (HF-HRTP) and Advancing Careers Equitably (ACE) workforce grants.

Funding isavailable for a limited time, so we encourage you to attend the to begin the eligibility review process.
To help ease your financial burden, will reimburse your EMT school tuition after you have complete the CSUDH EMT Training Program completion.
*Hiring Requirement:
—Reimbursement in full (up to $1,500) is available for full-time hires, 50% for part-time hires
—Completion of EMT program within six (6) months of hire
You refer a qualified EMT. Students get paid the bonus after the employee reaches their 90-day mark.
EMTs can receive a shift bonus of $50 or more, (up to $75 per shift) when covering critically needed shifts. (Bonus shifts identified as needed.)
