Dr. Justin Hanenberg, DCLS, MLS(ASCP), is a medical laboratory scientist with extensive experience in laboratory medicine, diagnostic stewardship, and laboratory leadership. He brings a unique combination of clinical expertise, scientific innovation, and collaborative leadership to the classroom, helping students understand the critical role of the clinical laboratory in patient care.
Dr. Hanenberg works closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to translate complex laboratory data into meaningful clinical decisions that improve patient outcomes. His professional experience spans hematology, immunology, coagulation, molecular diagnostics, laboratory quality improvement, and diagnostic stewardship. In addition to his clinical practice, he has served as a subject matter expert, educator, and advocate for the medical laboratory profession through legislative engagement, professional organizations, and community outreach.
At ÌÇÐÄlogoÈë¿Ú, Dr. Hanenberg teaches courses in Immunology, Hematology, Coagulation, and Laboratory Stewardship, preparing future Clinical Laboratory Scientists through evidence-based instruction and real-world clinical applications.
Dr. Hanenberg earned his Doctor of Clinical Laboratory Science (DCLS) from Rutgers University and his Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science from Monmouth University. He is certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and is a Certified Biomedical/Clinical Research Investigator (CITI Program). He also holds Clinical Laboratory Scientist licenses in both California and New York.
His scholarly work focuses on hematology, transfusion medicine, molecular diagnostics, and diagnostic stewardship. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations and was recognized with a 3rd Place Award at the Rutgers School of Health Professions 50th Research and Scholarship Symposium for a clinical case study.
Outside of teaching and clinical practice, Dr. Hanenberg is involved with several professional organizations including the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), and the Association for Diagnostic Laboratory Medicine (ADLM), as well as the consumer response team at . He is also a musician, outdoors enthusiast, amateur athlete, and LGBTQ advocate.Â
