Student injuries

Reporting a Student Injury

Students injured in class or on a field trip that are not student assistants or participating in a work study program, are not covered under workers’ compensation. Students injured while working from a Grant or Intern program will be handled as per the contract. Graduate students are covered under workers’ compensation.

Students

Students injured in your class or on a field trip are not covered under workers' compensation. However, the injury must be reported. Please use the Accident Report [PDF] form to report these injuries.

Notification of these injuries should be sent to the Risk Management department located in Welch Hall (WH) 470G. Please send them the original and keep a copy. Contact Risk Management at (310) 243-3867 or email riskmanagement@csudh.edu.

Student Assistants

When a student assistant (includes volunteers and student assistants in a work-study program) becomes injured, ill, or involved in a near-miss incident they must be provided with an Employee/Volunteer Report of Injury/Illness [PDF] form to complete and submit to Human Resources Management.

Under Workers’ Compensation, volunteers, student assistants, or students who are injured or become ill while on a work-study program may be viewed as employees and may be eligible for most benefits available to regular employees.

Graduate Students

If the student was working as a graduate student during the incident, an Employee/Volunteer Report of Injury/Illness [PDF] form must be filled out; do not fill out the Accident Report form.

For more information, please contact the Workers’ Compensation Coordinator at (310) 243-3771.
