Some types of care are time-sensitive, while others can be accessed at any time. Seeking medical care does not require making a report.

When Medical Care May Be Helpful
Medical care can address different health needs following interpersonal harm, including:
- Checking or treating injuries
- Addressing pain or physical discomfort
- STI testing or treatment
- Pregnancy testing or pregnancy prevention options
- Sexual or reproductive health concerns
- Follow-up care or referrals
Medical needs may change over time. Care can be accessed when it feels useful, whether an experience happened recently or in the past.
If a Sexual Assault Happened Within the Last 5 Days
A sexual assault forensic exam, sometimes called a SAFE or SART exam, is specialized medical care available after a recent sexual assault. The exam can address health concerns and, if wanted, collect and preserve evidence.
A forensic exam:
- Is available within 5 days (120 hours) after a sexual assault
- Is provided at no cost
- Does not require filing a police report
- Can include medical care and evidence collection
- Allows choices about which parts of the exam are completed

Where to Get Medical Care
Different medical settings can provide different types of care. The options below may be helpful depending on the type of support needed.
CSUDH Student Health Services
For enrolled CSUDH students
Provides general medical care, injury assessment, STI testing, reproductive health services, and follow-up care.
Harbor-UCLA Medical Center
Emergency and urgent medical care
Provides 24/7 emergency care for serious injuries, urgent health concerns, or other immediate medical needs.
Planned Parenthood
Sexual and reproductive health care
Provides services such as STI testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, reproductive health care, and follow-up care.
Other Medical Providers
Additional options
Other options may include a local urgent care clinic, primary care provider, or another medical provider of choice. Insurance coverage and costs vary by provider.
