Reducing financial barriers for students pursuing careers in behavioral and mental health and supporting the growing need for professionals serving children, youth, and families in underserved communities across Los Angeles County.

This scholarship is for students who are committed to completing their degree or certification program, preparing for professional licensure or credentialing, and building careers in school-based, community-based, nonprofit, healthcare, and county behavioral health settings that serve high-need communities. Our goal is to support a diverse, culturally responsive, and community-rooted behavioral and mental health workforce for the LA region. Priority will be given to qualified candidates who are not receiving other stipends or external scholarships.

Scholarship Categories

Eligibility criteria for all THLA Scholarships

• Maintain full-time enrollment by completing required full-time coursework established by the academic program
• Be in good academic standing (GPA 3.0 higher) and remain on track for timely graduation within their program timeline
• Demonstrate commitment to:
  • Completing internships and clinical training serving children, youth, and families in underserved communities
  • Working in LA County, with preference given to candidates in the South and East LA regions
  • Licensure preparation or professional certification, as appropriate for your degree
  • Working in behavioral and mental health professions after graduation
  • Serving school-based, community-based, nonprofit, healthcare, or county behavioral health settings

Required Mental and Behavioral Health Workforce Commitment

All scholarship recipients are expected to review and acknowledge the following commitments.

Employment Commitment

Recipients intend to seek and work for at least two (2) years after degree completion serving children, youth, and/or families in high-need and underserved communities across Los Angeles County, with a preference for South and East LA regions.

This may include employment in schools, community-based organizations, government agencies, healthcare settings, and youth- or family-serving organizations.

Ongoing Reporting Requirement

They agree to remain in contact with the THLA team and provide updates regarding:

• Employment status
• Licensure progress if applicable
• Professional placement
• Workforce service in target communities

This information helps support program evaluation, workforce tracking, and continued improvement of student support efforts.
